Email Communication

The iMentor Core Curriculum

iMentor’s curriculum offerings are designed to support mentor-mentee pairs as they develop their relationship over email. The curriculum facilitates email communication by providing weekly writing/discussion prompts for both mentors and mentees. With all matched pairs using one of iMentor’s curriculum offerings, iMentor is able to elevate email correspondence from a convenient mode of communication to a valuable tool for the development of mentor-mentee relationships and a meaningful vehicle for youth development.

What is the iMentor Core Curriculum?

The Core Curriculum is a series of weekly writing prompts that facilitate mentor-mentee email communication over the course of the program year. Each writing prompt guides mentors and mentees through discussion topics critical to relationship-building, as well as projects designed to develop mentees’ technological ability, literacy skills, and personal growth. To-date, iMentor has more than 100 writing prompts in the Core Curriculum (with new content added each year). Each of iMentor's partnering institutions selects the 30 writing prompts they feel will best benefit the mentees at their site.

See a sample writing prompt from each area of focus:

Personal - Is Voting Important?

Academic - College Dollars and Sense

Career - Networking 101
