Harlem on the Rise!!!
A photo essay based on the changes in Harlem over the
last couple of years from theh prospective of a seventeen year girl who has
lived there her entire life.
The Person Behind the Photo Essay
Born and raised in Harlem, I've rarely experienced the media's portrayal of this section of Manhattan. My name is Brittany Smith and for as long as I can remember the only time my neighborhood has been mentioned on the news or is in the papers is when something negative occurs. Many people's perception of Harlem reflects that portrayal. My photo essay demonstrates the changes that I've witnessed in the community. My purpose for creating this photo essay is to present some negative aspects on Harlem life and show the changes I've seen.
Just a little background info...
As a seventeen year old there is not much I can say about myself. I come from a large family, yet I was raised in a single parent home. I'm still in high school, a junior and preparing more for college than my senior year. I'm interested in studying a variety of fields incluing broadcating, culinary arts, criminal psycology and business ownership. Whatever I do in life I hope to be happy, healthy nad successful.
