iMentor, a leading youth mentoring organization, today announced the addition of three new partner schools to its New York City program, as well as the launch of two new programs that focus on college success and provide clear benchmarks for successful mentoring relationships. As the 2011-2012 school year gets underway, iMentor’s newest programs and partner schools will ensure that iMentor’s high school students in underserved communities are prepared to reach their full potential in their academic careers.

One of New York City’s largest mentoring programs is calling upon male Bronxites to provide a helping hand. Since 1999, iMentor has matched adult mentors with young high school students from underserved communities in the five boroughs. These students are enrolled in multi-year programs with one-on-one matches who have graduated college and are assisted with their education to lead them to higher education.

Maria Fernandez, 45, a mother of three, struggles financially to support her family while pursuing a college degree. “It becomes very frustrating when you can’t make ends meet for your kids,” Fernandez said. Fortunate for her and other struggling students, Miami Dade College has partnered with an organization called iMentor to form a Single Stop mentoring program.

Mi estudiante es un joven recién llegado que no dominaba el inglés, pero superó grandes obstáculos". Ventura es parte del sistema de IMentor, un programa de tutoreo para estudiantes de bajos recursos que están en la secundaria.
