Juan Morel Campos
About the iMentor Partnership
In 2010, iMentor began its partnership with Juan Morel Campos, enrolling 9th graders into a four-year mentoring program focused on high school graduation. This year, mentors will continue to support this class of sophomores and the program has expanded to include the new class of freshman. Mentors work with students to support the their transition into high school and help them stay on track for graduation. Juan Morel Campos encourages students to develop their talents in performing and fine arts, as well as in athletics. As the students build their artistic talents, mentors help them build a well-rounded approach to their academic careers.
iMentor’s partnership with Juan Morel Campos was initiated by the Robin Hood Foundation, a long-standing iMentor partner. The program at Juan Morel Campos is among a group of schools participating in a pilot designed to provide additional support for students to improve high school graduation rates. Launched in response to the high school drop-out crisis in New York City, where most students who drop out do so by 10th grade, iMentor and its partner schools believe a supportive mentor working alongside a rigorous core education will contribute to student engagement and help to improve high school graduation rates.
Working closely with school administrators, including Principal Howard Fineman and teachers Adam Davison, Ms. Klatman, Mr. Dannow, and Mr. Smethurst, iMentor has developed outcomes focused on building personal relationships to set the foundation for academic and career success.

Fun Facts
- In addition to night school, the school offers a host of activities for students, including student government, band, flag football, a step team, and dance. The school also fields PSAL (Public Schools Athletic League) sports teams.
- JMC has a middle school too! A huge majority, about 80%, of the students carry on from the JMC middle school into the high school, creating a wonderfully open and friendly community of learning.
- In the middle school, there are "self-contained" classes within the special education program that are held only in English, bilingual Spanish, and bilingual Yiddish, the only such program in the city. In the high school, there are "collaborative team teaching" (CTT) classes, in which two teachers, one with special education certification, share leadership of a class that mixes students with special need with general education students.
