International High School at Prospect Heights
About the iMentor Partnership
iMentor has partnered with International High School at Prospect Heights for six of the seven years of the school’s operation. iMentor classes are integrated into the 12th grade internship program at the school. As a result, iMentor has become a vital part of the culture in the school, and students look forward to being matched with a mentor as a rite of passage during their senior year.
The school has worked with iMentor over the years to specially cater their curriculum to fit within the existing structure of their students’ senior year. iMentor has developed writing prompts for mentor-mentee email communications that mirror the work being done in the students’ college advisory class. Every student has an advisor they meet with weekly to work on iMentor curriculum, college preparation, and professional development materials. Through a combination of college advisory, iMentor curriculum, and the support of their mentors, students explore and refine their career options and interests, identify their many talents and skills, and develop cover letters and resumes. iMentor also hosts a variety of exciting college and career themed events for mentor-mentee pairs, where students can improve their communication, interviewing, and networking skills.
While developing the skills and materials to apply for colleges and seek out their dream careers, students also improve their ability to articulate themselves and their talents to a wide range of audiences while increasing their spoken and written English Language proficiency.
