About the iMentor Partnership

iMentor has been involved with ACHS since February 2011, and this year marks the first full academic year of the partnership. iMentor is working with the juniors in the school to help them prepare graduate high school college ready and make a successful transition to college. ACHS has a strong partnership with school staff--a number of teachers host iMentor sessions during the academic week, and iMentor staff also works closely with Ms. Robinson, the guidance counselor, Ms. Lafalaise and Mr. Honeroff the assistant principals, as well as Mr. Slade the school’s technology support staff member.

At ACHS, to address the ever changing needs of the students, academic classes are two periods long with most students taking three classes a semester instead of five. Math and English scores have gone up due to this strategy, and the process had the school removed from the “Schools in Need of Improvement” list. Ninety percent of graduates are attending college, with the majority staying within the five burroughs. ACHS provides remedial instruction for college preparation, as well as a support system for alumni.
