What makes Lyla our mentor of the month? Lyla is "THE CHEERLEADER"

Lyla's relationship with her mentee, Diana, speaks for itself. As her mentor, Lyla always takes the time to make sure she is giving Diana the best possible advice. Despite the summer and the miles, Lyla has made herself available to give advice or simply listen to her mentee as she shares all of her new experiences. Her email responses are encouraging and thoughtful, and it is obvious that she truly enjoys mentoring Diana as she is always careful that her mentee receives the most out of their relationship. Whether it's through emails, phone calls, texts, or in-person events Lyla is always rooting for her mentee. Lyla makes one point loud and clear: she will always be there to cheer on Diana in whatever she is doing.

Diana says...

“I'm at Cornell right now. It was a longggggggggg ride from the city... Cornell is okay, it's a lot of grass but I can manage. My class is wearing me out. I'm only taking one, but still... For some reason, my professor makes me feel very sleepy, it's like 95 students in my class, but then we get divided and we have our TA's take over. My TA is cool, he keeps me awake and I have to stay awake because I'm the second row and he can see me...".

Lyla says...

“I'm glad to hear things are going well there... What are you doing for fun? Have you gone off campus at all? Have you made friends with new people? Diana - make sure you take this opportunity to meet people, especially other people your age who you might not have anything in common with... you need to become comfortable speaking and working with different kinds of people. Plus - you never know what you might learn or how much fun you might have when you open up to new people and new things."
