San Antonio Youth Centers (SAYC)--a 25-year old, community-based, private nonprofit, nominated nationally as an outstanding EZ/EC community agency--offers a unique service model that combines the traditional positive youth development model with its own proprietary full-service, wraparound, “whatever it takes” model for successfully intervening in the lives of urban youth. SAYC’s mission is to develop the character, strengths, talents and skills of San Antonio’s high-risk urban youth through fun, safe experiences, positive learning environments, and holistic programs that inspire each individual to fulfill their potential--personally and in the community. Its vision is to reach out to San Antonio’s high-risk urban youth so each one who enters its doors will go forward with the tools necessary for lifelong success. SAYC runs seven community learning centers for school-age children at risk of dropping out of school. Programs operate during the out of school time (after school and weekend) hours when juvenile crime and delinquency peak in low income areas where students live in poverty. It also runs a program for high school dropouts (Alamo City YouthBuild) where high school drop-outs recover their GED or HS Diploma and work on attainment of a workforce skills certification.
