iMentor is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of young people from underserved communities in New York City through innovative, technology-based approaches to youth mentoring and education. I became involved with iMentor just over a year ago, primarily because of its appeal to the large number of willing volunteers (like myself) that would love to mentor but don't necessarily have the time to commit to frequent in-person meetings. The relationship is founded on weekly email exchanges, in addition to face-to-face meetings and activities every month or so. I have been impressed by iMentor's organization and their commitment to facilitating meaningful mentoring relationships.

My current mentee is Meiyuan Luo (aka Leo). He is a student at Lower East Side Prep, a school predominantly attended by children of recent immigrants. Leo emigrated from China just a couple years ago, and now lives with his parents and sisters in Brooklyn. Despite his initial regrets upon leaving China, Leo is increasingly determined to embrace his new home. He hopes to complete a 2-year college program before moving on to study engineering at a U.S. university. Right now, we're focused on preparing for his high school graduation exams, as well as picking a college and navigating the application process.

As a nonprofit, iMentor relies on the support of its participants and other donations to cover its costs. The cost to support one mentor-mentee pair for the program year is roughly $1,000. I would like to request your contribution so that iMentor can continue to add to its numerous success stories over the past few years. No amount is too little and any support is appreciated!
