From Tim
Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, I have volunteered with a great organization called iMentor since the fall of 2006. iMentor provides a truly unique forum for pairing NYC professionals with ambitious high school students from underserved communities. For the past two years, I've had the privilege of working with Andrew, who is currently a senior at Bronx Prep. Andrew is an exceptional young man whose talents range from science and math to jazz performance on the piano. Through iMentor's writing curriculum and in-person events, we have worked to hone Andrew's written communications as well as to discuss his goals, values, possible career plans, and of course the college application process (and maybe a bit about video games, too).
I've had a lot of fun getting to know Andrew and I think I've learned a lot from him and from the experience of being a mentor. Heaven knows it's scary to feel like I was in college yesterday and then suddenly find out that now I'm supposed to be a responsible role-model. But iMentor does a phenomenal job of creating and nurturing these rewarding relationships, and I have no doubt that the city and the world into which these great students will venture are better off for it.
If you're concerned about the state of public education in America and the widening gaps in wealth and achievement that have resulted, I hope you will consider making a small donation to iMentor - an innovative non-profit whose mission directly addresses these critical issues.
Thanks very much for your support!
