From Tim

Dearest Friends and Family,

Some of you know that last year I finally found a charitable cause that really resonated with me and that I could focus my energy on: a mentoring organisation called iMentor. After a rigourous screening process I was finally matched through iMentor with a very exceptional young man from the Bronx, Alex Lambie. He's in his second to last year of high school at the Bronx Academy of Letters and we've developed a unique relationship over the last few months. I can honestly say that we've learned as much about life as each other via elongated philosophical ramblings. I'm trying to help Alex find his way from high school to college and to deal with the issues around it. He's helping me make my way in the world too. I think it's fair to say that the program surpassed both of our expectations and that our lives have very much been changed for the better as a result. Really everyone should consider doing this!

iMentor is quickly becoming one of the most innovative and influential youth development organizations in the country.

Together, the iMentor team is changing thousands of lives every year. This year alone, we are matching 800 young people with 800 mentors in New York City, bringing together people who never would have met without our program and showing both the mentor and mentee all of the compassion, creativity and ambition that New Yorkers have to offer. And what we do is this: we make these mentoring relationships work. Participating in our program changes peoples lives. Our mentors become more invested in their city and in social change. They commit a year of their life to helping young people living in some of NYC’s toughest communities navigate high school and get into college, preparing them for personal, academic and career success.

The iMentor program is free for all mentors, mentees and partnering schools. Every year, iMentor raises money from people like you to support the program. It costs us $1,000 to make and facilitate a mentoring relationship. It is my personal goal to raise $3,000 from my network. Please help me out by clicking on the button below and making a donation, small or large. Together we can enroll a new mentor-mentee pair in the program. I truly feel like we are at the beginning of something very special here at iMentor. Your support will bring together two people who never would have met without iMentor and show them what is possible when New Yorkers from all walks of life reach out and get involved.

Note that I have chosen to get a little more involved than most in this organisation. I am delighted to say that I will soon be considered for a full board position within iMentor. This would afford me an incredible opportunity to be a part of the decision making process for this exceptional organisation and to share ideas with very impressive people. Most importantly it might just mean that I can make that little bit more of a difference to some high school students who really need direction and have unlimited potential.

YOU can make a difference right now by donating and helping me reach my target. Please give what you can. I can assure you that it will go to very good use.

Thank you all SO much. And please let me know if you want to find out more about iMentor and how to get involved.

Love to all,

Tim

PS - you lot with pounds and euros don't be holding back now!

About iMentor

5,000 matches since 1999 in NYC / 800 matches this year

and we are just getting started.......

iMentor's mission is to improve the lives of young people from underserved communities in  New York City through innovative, technology-based approaches to youth mentoring and education. iMentor creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships between high school-aged youth (mentees) and caring adult mentors. Every mentor-mentee pair cultivates their relationship using iMentor's pioneering combination of weekly email correspondence and regular in person meetings.

Capitalizing on email and emerging technologies, iMentor adds structure and flexibility to its mentoring relationships. iMentor's mentoring model proves that:

  • Even the busiest most successful New Yorkers have time to be quality mentors - 84% of our mentors have never served as a mentor before iMentor
  • Formal mentoring programs can reach and flourish in NYC's most isolated, low-income, and underserved communities - 98% of our mentees have never had a mentor before iMentor

iMentor is reinventing possibilities for youth mentoring, activating a new class of volunteer mentor, and cultivating relationships that change lives.
