From Lenny
Friends,
As some of you may know, I've been participating in a mentoring organization focused on helping underserved youth in New York City called iMentor. The iMentor model is based on weekly email correspondence, supplemented with special events throughout the school year such as museum tours, college and career preparation workshops, and sporting events. Although I've only been involved for a short time - the program was founded in 1999 and many mentors have been participating since that time - I think the program is an effective way for busy New Yorkers to build relationships with high school students and impact underserved communities.
My mentee, Tevin, was born in Trinidad and moved to the U.S. a few years ago. He's a sophomore at George Westinghouse High School (a tech school) in Brooklyn Heights. Tevin's a great guy with an even better sense of humor. As an adult, he wants to work as a web designer because he finds the creative aspect appealing.
To support Tevin's involvement with iMentor, I'm raising money to cover the iMentor curriculum, events and programs. Hopefully you'll consider making a donation to iMentor - I assure you your contribution will have a positive impact on NYC youth communities in general. Remember, no donation is too small, and (of course) no donation is too large.
Yours Truly,
Lenny
