From Jess
Dear friends,
I've been involved with an amazing non-profit called iMentor over the past 2 years. iMentor is so brilliant because it taps into the city's most underutilized resource (I think), young working professionals, to help teens living in lower-income neighborhoods of the city. This program opens up new possibilities for both the teen and the mentor. For many mentors, this is their first connection with anyone living in a borough outside of Manhattan, often times in rough neighborhoods, opening their eyes to a broader aspect of NYC. For the teens, having the guidance of a caring mentor can be a life-changing experience, that positively affects them for the rest of their lives.
This year I am mentoring a Freshman from Sheepshead Bay High School in Brooklyn, Marina. She was born in Russia and emigrated here as young child. She is a VERY high achiever and excels in school. I am helping her get through the growing pains of being a teenager, and since she's an only child, I've taken on the role of a big sister, giving advice on dealing with all of the stress and pressure that come with high school.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal of $200 to support iMentor, making a difference in 800 young people's lives this year!
Thanks,
Jess
