From Caroline Dear Friends & Family: Some of you may know that since the fall of 2006, I have been volunteering for an amazing organization called iMentor. My first mentee was named Lydia Britny, who is now in college and looking to pursue a career in the music industry. My mentee this year is Thea, an ambitious and extremely well-spoken junior at Brooklyn International High School. BIHS is a member of the Internationals Network for Public Schools, an organization partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It is currently one of nine high schools in the Internationals Network, whose mandate is "to provide a quality education to all of our students so they may graduate high school and go on to college, thereby opening the door to the American Dream." The students at BIHS come from forty different countries and speak thirty different native languages. Thea is originally from the Philippines and speaks fluent English. She aspires to go to nursing school after she graduates. “The Ask”. . . why you should send your hard-earned dollars: iMentor is a really great organization that helps youth grow in positive ways. Students’ writing and technology skills advance, and their motivation and confidence increases. No amount is too little and any support is appreciated! Best wishes! Caroline About iMentor: iMentor matches NYC professionals with high school students from low-income areas of the city. Mentors and mentees communicate weekly through email and then they meet in-person at events held all over the city. They are always looking for new mentors!
