From Chrystal
Hi all,
I currently mentor a high school student through a wonderful organization called iMentor, which has allowed me to give back to the community and help a female high school student get through high school and try to guide her to college.
Ysamar is a vibrant, intelligent, and caring young lady currently in her junior year at the School of Business for Young Women located in the East Village. She has strong ambition and hopes to be involved in science in the future. She is also very close to her family and friends, and is able to carefully balance all aspects of her life, and makes it look so easy!
Mentoring a high school student, especially a young lady, is very important because so many young people do not have someone to turn to, to guide them or answer questions. When I was in high school, I was very ambitious and driven, but did not have a clear role model to give me advice on what college to go to, what classes to take, what career to pursue. I hope that I have and can continue to be that person for Ysamar throughout the last 2 years of high school. I strongly believe that all people should try to give back to the community, and specifically to young people who have bright futures ahead of them, whether it be by mentoring, donating time or money, or by supporting in any other way.
Our goal is to raise $1,000 for iMentor, in order to help offset the costs that the program incurs. The iMentor program is completely free for all mentees, mentors, and partnering schools. To support our work, iMentor relies on the generous contributions of individuals, private foundations, and corporations to support our mission. That is why we need your help! Please help in any way you can - even the smallest donations will help!
Thanks for all of your support! Ysamar and I really appreciate it.
