iMentor's Young Executive Board
What is the Young Executive Board? The iMentor Young Executive Board (YEB) is a group of New York City young professionals who volunteer their time to: - Increase the visibility/awareness of iMentor - Expand iMentor's network of supporters - Support iMentor's fundraising activities with special events and other initiatives - Provide management and program support - Help enrich iMentor's programming There are currently 20 members on iMentor's Young Executive Board. Each year, the YEB holds a Spring Benefit fundraising event to support iMentor's programming. YEB members also work on subteams to assist iMentor with special ongoing projects including mentor recruitment, mentor-mentee event support, and corporate outreach. Meet our current YEB Members HERE.
How do I join the YEB? Please email us if you would like to learn more about becoming a part of the Requirements: - There are 6 YEB update meetings every year. Each member must attend at least 4 of these meetings, in person or via conference call. In addition, YEB members must attend subteam meetings as necessary. - YEB member must make a one-year commitment and serve on a subteam. Currently, there are 4 subteams: Mentor/mentee, Corporate, Special Events & Special Projects. YEB members may resign or request to serve on another subteam twice a year: June and December. In June and December, YEB members may also request a leave for six months. - Each YEB member must pass iMentor's screening process for volunteer mentors. (Online application, criminal background check & 3 references) - YEB sponsors 2 or 3 special events a year to benefit, or to recruit mentors for iMentor. YEB works closely with iMentor staff to determine the goal of each event. Each YEB member must attend all YEB-sponsored special events, or send a representative. (All YEB members, including iMentor staff, must pay for their own tickets for these events.) In addition, each YEB member must invite at least 5 people to YEB-sponsored special events. - YEB members are required to make a financial contribution to iMentor every year. Each YEB member should decide the appropriate amount that is significant given his or her own financial situation. The annual gift must be made by June of each year. (YEB members may choose to donate more than the tickets they purchased for YEB events, but this is not required!) - There is no term limit for YEB members. However, the YEB Chair and iMentor's Executive Director may ask an inactive YEB member to leave in June or December. - The YEB Chair is appointed by iMentor's Executive Director and confirmed by the entire YEB (including iMentor's program director.) YEB members may nominate a candidate to the executive director. The Chair must receive at least 2/3 of votes. YEB Chair may serve up to two terms of two years.(4 years total) - In addition to YEB-sponsored events, YEB members are required to attend at least one iMentor event a year. Examples of iMentor events include: end of semester mentor/mentee events (June & December), Board (Board of Directors) cocktail party (May) and Annual Fundraiser (December). - In addition to the YEB, the full iMentor team includes the Board of Directors, the Board of Advisors and paid staff. All YEB members have the opportunity to meet or interact with these groups at special events and through their involvement in special committees. YEB members may not request a special meeting or individual introduction for non-iMentor related business. - New YEB members are nominated by iMentor's Executive Director, Program Director or any current member of the YEB. No YEB member or iMentor staff may offer the YEB position to anyone who has not been voted on by the YEB body. New members are required to submit a resume and receive 2/3 of votes. New members may be nominated and voted on at each update meeting. - Including two iMentor fulltime staff, YEB consists of 15-20 members at any given time. The size and scope of YEB is re-evaluated once a year (June-August) by the Special Projects Subteam.
