Thank Your Mentor Today

Naiel, I want to say thank you for being there for me…I don't think I would've looked at things the same after speaking with you about it. It was good always talking about things with you…Our conversations to me felt like a big brother speaking to his little brother on everything, and I want to tell you that you are the brother I never had. Our friendship will always be there and I'm serious about keeping in touch. Thanks for everything you've done for me.

When is the last time you took time to thank the people who have encouraged and guided you throughout your life? Don’t let another day go by without showing your appreciation--today is Thank Your Mentor Day, in honor of National Mentoring Month. 

This year, iMentor has 2,400 students like Luis in New York City who are thankful for the advice, support, and encouragement of their mentors. These dedicated volunteers write emails to their mentees every week and meet with them in person once a month to help them graduate high school college-ready and succeed once they get there. They work on everything from study skills and application essays to creating budgets and picking out college meal plans.

Today, we join our mentees in thanking all of our wonderful mentors. Here are some ways you can get involved:

• Reach out to the mentors in your life and thank them for what they have done for you
• Pay tribute to your mentor by telling us about them on our Facebook page
• Make a donation in honor of your mentor to support the work of mentoring
