Mentors Gather in Midtown for iMentor’s Back to School Party
Last night, more than 200 new and veteran mentors gathered in the Midtown neighborhood of New York City for iMentor’s Back to School Party—our first iConnect event of the year! The event was held at the trendy PS450 Lounge and kicked off iMentor NYC’s biggest program year yet. Thanks to our volunteers, we’re now serving 2,400 students at 19 public high schools throughout New York City.
Throughout the night, mentors had the chance to meet and mingle with iMentor staff, as well as fellow volunteers who are matched with students at our partner schools across four boroughs. Mentors volunteering at the same school enjoyed greeting familiar faces and catching up about recent events at their mentees’ school. Some helped us expand our community by bringing along friends and colleagues who are interested in learning about our organization.
The event allowed members of the iMentor community to connect over their common goals and shared experiences. In light of Hurricane Sandy, a storm that devastated communities across the East Coast just weeks ago, iMentor will donate the proceeds from this iConnect event to hurricane recovery efforts in the communities where our mentees live and attend school.
Thanks to all who came out to make it our most successful iConnect event ever! We’re looking forward to continuing the conversations that began at this special event.
The iConnect event series offers exclusive opportunities for our volunteers become more involved with the iMentor community. iConnect events are held a few times a year and range from dynamic panel discussions to wine tastings and happy hours. To learn how to get involved, email Stacey Gorman.
