Steps to Becoming a Mentor   |   The Matching Process

Mentor Commitment: Volunteering 2.0

Steps to Becoming a Mentor

  • Fill out an online application
  • iMentor will confirm receipt
  • Attend a training session (after iMentor receives your application we will send invitations to mentor training).
  • Complete the screening process (instructions will be provided at the training session).

The Matching Process

Once you have completed the screening process you will be in our pool of mentors to be matched. When we find you a match, you will receive a message from an iMentor Program Coordinator notifying you of important information on your mentee and their school.  Your mentee will then send the first message to you shortly thereafter.

Mentor Commitment: Volunteering 2.0

Mentoring can be both fun and rewarding, but it is a serious responsibility. The following is expected of all mentors:

Mentors must be able to commit six hours each month. This commitment includes:

  • One weekly email message (approximately one hour for a thoughtful, well-crafted message.)
  • One monthly face-to-face meeting at iMentor-sponsored events (approximately two hours).
  • iMentor organizes a large number (and wide variety) of mentor-mentee events each year.
  • Events are almost always outside of working hours (6-8PM on weekdays & 1-4PM on Saturdays).
